There's lots to like about this park. The creek is wonderful, the Vasona Resevoir and the pedestrian bridge that crosses it, tons of resident ducks and geese, as well as a breeding colony of Blue Herons that nest there in the late winter. The playground equipment for the kids and the meadows you can rent for larger groups. It's all wonderful, but of all of it our favorite feature of the park is the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad.
I love trains and railroad history anyways, but anytime we can find a miniature scale train to ride with our daughter it's going to be a fun day!
The rail line runs through a meadow area between the creek and the parking lots. It's a very short ride, but it does go up and down some small grades, under and around trees, and it only costs $2 per person (kids under 2 are free).
It's awesome the walking paths that cross the tracks have operating crossing gates and lights.
When the train pulls back into the station, the engine disconnects from the train and pulls onto a turntable to turn the train around. It reminded me of the Folsom Railroad Turntable.
I love this park and I really love the train. It's a great place for the kids!
Parking costs $6 per vehicle.
Train costs $2 per person over 2 years old
