Thoughts on Gay Marriage

Q. Marriage is a religious ceremony, right? Why are the same people who are always up in arms about separation of church and state the same who want the state to regulate the church when it comes to marriage. No regulation one way or the other should be allowed. Smaller Fed government and power returned to the states to make up their own minds, and if you don't like how it is in a red state, move to a blue state. Freer and happier people I bet.

A. There are two aspects to marriage. A religious ritual, which the government has no place in regulating... And a civil contract, which the church has no authority over. I don't care what churches do inside their property (as long as it doesn't violate the tax code requirements that allow them to remain tax exempt), but when it comes to the civil contract, none of the laws regulating it should have anything to do with religious requirements.  No one wants the state to regulate church my friend. they want the church to stop intruding on civil government matters.

Is your marriage really that weak?

Rick Santorum is spewing again!  Full Story

“The reason the left has gone after same-sex marriage is because it’s a two-fer,” Santorum said. “When you redefine marriage, you cheapen marriage. You make it into something less valuable, less special … [and] it is a sure bet that will undermine faith.”

The "left" has "gone after" same-sex marriage because we believe in equality.  The idea that allowing everyone the same marriage rights that Santorum enjoys will not cheapen, or undermine anyone else's marriage or faith.

Is your marriage, and your religion really so weak that your neighbors getting married can undermine it?  If so, maybe you should focus your energy on working on that instead of trying to prevent your neighbors from being able to legally marry.

Conservative vs. Liberals

A friend of mine posted this little gem of wisdom to her facebook page, and then tagged me in it, probably because she wanted me to respond to it.  Unfortunately, facebook has many limitations, one of them being they limit how many characters you can type in a reply, and it doesn't allow you to easily hyperlink references in your response, so instead I have posted my response below and sent her a link to this post.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as <sarcasm> I know she will </sarcasm>.
